Two battleships. Then ten. America is there. What about us?
When Trump says that the US will build two battleships, and then become ten, he is not engaging in folklore. He is saying something very simple: America has no intention of shrinking, nor of having its agenda dictated by others.
In a world where the West spends its time questioning its own limitations, the mistakes of the past and how much space to give to those who do not share its values, Washington chooses another path. Sharper, clearer, more American: to reassert its presence, even symbolically, even muscularly.
And it must be said without mincing words: it is good. We Europeans should do the same.
Power is not a fault
In recent years, a dangerous idea has spread: that exercising power is something to be ashamed of. That showing strength is provocative. That deterrence is a form of aggression.
History says otherwise.
Western peace existed because someone was ready to defend it.
Battleships are not just ships. They are a political message: America remains a global maritime power, capable of guarding the oceans, ensuring freedom of navigation, and making its international role credible. At a time when others are investing heavily in military force, to pretend that this does not matter would be naive.
Being West, without complexes
This choice also speaks of identity.
Of a West that does not ask for permission to exist, that does not deny its own history, that does not give up its instruments of defence to please those who despise it.
Building new battleships means reaffirming a precise idea of the world: order, freedom, security . It means saying that the seas are no man’s land, but spaces to be protected. It means remembering that international law only applies if there is someone willing to enforce it.

It is a message that comes through strongly, especially today.
There is also another aspect, which we Europeans should watch carefully.
The United States does not endlessly question what it ‘should be’. They act on the basis of what they are.
Europe, on the other hand, often delegates its security while discussing abstract principles. America, once again, proves that freedom is not free and that leadership is not compatible with chronic indecision. And today it reminds us of the cost of this freedom, putting us Europeans at a crossroads. Defend ourselves or succumb.
This is not a provocation. It is realism.
America remains America
Two battleships today. Ten tomorrow.
Beyond the numbers, the signal is very clear: the United States is not giving up its role, not backing down, not blending into a multipolar world that is often just a more unstable world.
In a time of ambiguity and weakness masquerading as virtue, America chooses clarity. And with it, it relaunches an idea of a self-aware, proud West, ready to defend what it stands for.
And this is news that, for those who truly believe in the West, can only be greeted with enthusiasm.
