On Sunday 7 June, the Auditorium Parco della Musica hosts ‘Firemen & Music for World Peace’ in collaboration with the Fire Brigade.

The war of aggression against Ukraine is always on the minds of those working to bring relief to the field. This is the urgency that animates ‘Firemen & Music for World Peace’, the concert on Sunday 7 June at the Auditorium della Musica, hosted by Francesco Vergovich. The event, hosted thanks to the availability of Rome’s Culture Department, is organised by the‘La Memoria Viva’ Association of Castellamonte (Turin) in collaboration with theFiremen Mutual Aid Association. This is not a simple cultural and musical occasion, but a humanitarian initiative that will come to concrete life on the evening of the performance itself.

We talk about it with Roberto Faletti, president of La Memoria Viva

“With this concert we want to raise a universal song for peace. A concert to turn the spotlight on the 56 wars that afflict the world today without forgetting any of them, with a special focus on the humanitarian tragedy affecting Ukraine. A war that is close at hand, yet often far from public attention. The event is dedicated to the children involved in the various conflicts and to all the relief workers working in emergency zones to bring hope where there is destruction.”

How did the project come about?

“The initiative was strongly supported by Piero Moscardini, a former Civil Protection Department official and firefighter, a true rescue man. It was he who conceived this concert together with the Fire Brigade, our Association, the Rome Fire Brigade Mutual Aid Association and the Culture Department of the Municipality of Rome. We are all together for peace.”

The concert will start with a special moment, tell us about Yuliia

Yuliia is a five-year-old Ukrainian girl, specially arrived in Italy after a three-day journey from the most devastated suburbs of this war to Rome. Yuliia has known the darkness of shelters and the terror of missiles. For months she has been preparing for a very important task: to sit at the piano in the Auditorium and play the suffering of her people.”

The evening will have a very strong operational implication. What is it about?

“We are not limiting ourselves to words. During the event, a fundraiser will be activated for an immediate objective: that same evening, an armoured Fiat Ducato will leave the Auditorium, destined for the evacuation of civilians in the Krasnokutsk area, in the Kharkiv Oblast. A tangible aid, which people will see with their own eyes.”

The numbers of Memoria Viva’s commitment in the field

The commitment of ‘La Memoria Viva’ translates into an impressive logistical and human effort. Active since 26 February 2022, the volunteers have distributed thousands of tonnes of aid, directly evacuated thousands of people from the most dangerous areas, to which must be added those who are evacuated every day thanks to the means they have provided. The show will recall these missions through a prologue and three musical chapters: courage, hope and brotherhood.

“I also want to thank the Ukrainian community in Rome, the European Nonviolent Action Movement and Andrea Alesiani of Liberi Oltre for supporting an initiative that helps us build bridges of brotherhood with the Ukrainian people,” Roberto concludes.
