Next 9 May, Europe Day, there will be a historic first. In Kyiv, in the heart of a wounded but indomitable capital, the first demonstration of European citizens in support of Ukraine’s freedom will be held, promoted by Europa Radicale. At the Maidan, a square symbolic of resistance and dignity, citizens from all over Europe will gather to affirm a simple and powerful truth: Europe is reborn in Kyiv.

Europafutura, the association promoting L’Europeista, will also be present. Representing us will be Davide Cucciati, leader of our network, spokesperson for a commitment that is not only political, but existential. Being in Kyiv today is not a symbolic gesture, but an assumption of responsibility: to say openly, before the world, that Ukraine’s freedom is our freedom, that its resistance is our resistance.

The event will be attended by figures from the radical and pro-European world such as Silvja Manzi, Igor Boni, Federica Valcauda, Ivan Scalfarotto, Marco Taradash, Elena Buscemi, Massimiliano Melley, together with exponents of theAdelaide Aglietta Radical Association, the European Federalist Movement, the Ventotene Committee and, indeed, our own Europafutura.

United, we will strongly demand thatUkraine join the European Union as soon as possible, that member states protect its airspace, and that the International Criminal Court prosecute Russian war crimes and try President Putin for his historical responsibilities.

During the event, a huge European Union flag will be unfurled, on which will be written the names of three journalists martyred for truth and freedom: Victoria Roshchyna, Ukrainian reporter slaughtered and vilified just a few days ago by the Russians; Anna Politkovskaya, Russian journalist killed for reporting on the crimes of the Moscow regime; Antonio Russo, Italian journalist of Radio Radicale, murdered by the Russian services for documenting the use of unconventional weapons in Chechnya.

We will be there, with their memory in our hearts and the European flag in our hands. Because no Europe is possible except in peace, freedom and justice. Because Kyiv is today the frontier of our own European future. Because the peoples who fight to remain free are the ones who make Europe real and alive, beyond bureaucratism and political uncertainties.

To be present in Kyiv on 9 May is for us a moral duty, even before being a political choice. It is to remind the continent that Europe is not just a project, but a promise to be kept. With courage. With determination. With soul.

The Europeanist will be there. Europafutura will be there. Our Davide Cucciati will be there. And with him, all of us.
